History of Denver

Before Denver grew into the big metropolitan city that it is today; it used to be regarded as only an airport stop over for visiting the mountains and ski areas. This is a bustling city that has a lot to offer. Although it is called a modern city, Denver has a rich, long history.

It is a cultural city and you will enjoy visiting the Denver Arts Complex which covers over four city blocks and has eight theaters. Here you will find the new Opera House, and you will also be able to see concerts and dance performances year round.

Denver has diverse neighborhoods that each has their own separate personalities. For instance, the Berkeley Park neighborhood is home to many art galleries, boutiques, bakeries and coffee shops. The Old South Pearl Street neighbor has an eclectic mix of shops and businesses. It also hosts a farmers market every summer.

Denver is a spread out bustling metropolitan city and Denver International Airport is the nation’s largest and is 53 square miles. Denver also has the nation’s largest city park system. There are more than 200 parks within the city limits. Denver is considered to be a sports capital and has all four major league sports teams, plus two professional soccer teams.

There are so many things to do here and in the surrounding areas that you will never run out of places to go. You are only about thirty minutes away from world class skiing, hiking and snowboarding. Inside the city limits you will find a variety of parks and museums to explore. There is also the zoo and aquarium which are great for the whole family.

If you want to explore somewhere unique you can visit the Red Rocks which combines natural wonders and concerts and events. You can visit and view the red sandstone formations which are said to be over 250 million years old. In the evening you can enjoy concerts and see some of the biggest stars take the stage.

If you are a garden buff you should visit the Denver Botanic Gardens. It is spread over 23 acres and has a variety of plants from all over the world. Besides having spectacular gardens there are a variety of other things to see and do here. There are art exhibits, summer concerts and a fall plant and bulb sale. In September and October you can have fun in the gigantic eight acre corn maze at Chatfield. There is also the Pumpkin Festival where you and your family can visit and pick out your pumpkins for Halloween.

No matter what your interests are, you will find places to go and things to see in this sprawling city. It doesn’t matter whether you prefer outdoor or indoor activities there are plenty of both here. There are many places to shop and dine. All of the neighborhoods that make up Denver each have their own boutiques and food specialties. You can visit them all to find the place that suits you best.
