Delhi is one of the most visited cities in India. Tourism in Delhi has reached heightened altitude due to its ancient monuments and temples found here. Ancient architectural beauties lay in the place such as Safdarjung's Tomb, Lal Qila, Rahim- Khane- Khanam Tomb, Humayun's Tomb, Rashtrapati Bhawan, Sultan Ghari's Tomb, Veerbhumi, Shakti Sthal, Ajmeri Gate, Sabz Burj/Neela Gumbad, Qutub Minar, Vijay Ghat, Purana Qila, Agrasen Ki Baoli, Jantar Mantar, Tomb of Bahlol Lodi, India Gate, Kotla Ferozabad, Tughluqabad Fort, Shanti Van, Coronation Memorial, Raj Ghat, Connaught Place. Some of the temples worth mentioning are Gurudwara Sis Ganj, Lotus temple, ISKCON temple, Kalkaji temple, Gurudwara Bangla Sahib, Nizamuddin Dargah, Jama Masjid, Sacred Heart Cathedral/Church, St James Church, Lakshmi Narayan Temple amongst all others.

When we talk of places to visit in Delhi, right after ancient and historic monuments, the next thing that comes to mind is nothing but Delhi Markets! It has shops of the footpaths and roadsides and it also has branded high class international brands open for all classes of people. There are markets mushroomed everywhere around Delhi and every market has its own specialties and unique selling proposition. The weirdest part about shopping here is that, it is not only the tourists and visitors, who indulge in shopping like addicts, but also the locals. Inspite of being the habitants of the place, the people settled here cannot defy the attractive shopping delights that Delhi has to offer to all. Hence, it is practically a proven fact that Delhi is a 'shopper's heaven'. Some of the markets people can never ignore over here are Sarojini Nagar, Bengali Market, Darya Ganj market, Rajouri Garden Market, Central market of Lajpat Nagar, Khari Baoli, Jwala Heri Market, Chandni Chowk, Janpath, Khan Market, Kamla Nagar, Kirti Nagar, Lodhi Colony market, Nehru Place, Sadar Bazaar, Paharganj Market, Palika Bazaar,Kharak Singh Marg, Delli Haat, Greater Kailash, South Extension, Sundar Nagar, Tibetan Market, Karol Bagh. These are only a few to name, for on taking a proper tour around Delhi many other markets can be seen here and there. Inspite of going to all of them, people don't seem to have enough of them! Apart from the shoppers, the foodaholics also get to have a grand treat here since the range of food joints here is very high and easily available for the eaters. From roadside spicy food to branded food outlets, people can be seen crowding all the food hubs here. Street food is famous out here for items such as paani puri, chaat, chole bhature, chuski, etc. whereas McDonalds, KFC, Dominos, Nirulas, Pizza Huts, Café Coffee Days, etc. are also available for those who want.

Moving around Delhi is never a tough job for the communication facilities provided here is so efficient that people can easily move from one place to another without any worries and tension. Buses, auto rickshaws, rickshaws, taxi and metro communication is in service for the public to use. Metro is the most efficient and cheap mode of communication here and since its inception in Delhi it has been expanding from one corner to the other in Delhi. Apart from that Delhi is connected internationally as well, with the best air features and the railway communication is very effective as well to and from here.

Delhi is a city worth visiting and witnessing all that is here from food to place to monuments to markets. It is a huge city with a geographical area of 1,483 sq km and a place as huge as this needs time for exploration. With a little useful guide, Delhi trip can prove to be a memorable one with lot of memories to be treasured in the heart for a lifetime.

Camel Safari Eco Adventure Travel in India

Author: Ayush Aggarwal

The Camel Safari Circuit in India comprises of Jaisalmer, Jodhpur, and Bikaner, all in Rajasthan. They were the princely kingdoms in the desert belt of India Rajasthan. Each was comparable in size to many modern nations of Europe. All the former capitals prospered from trade with the camel caravans that traveled from West Asia and Europe to Mongolia, and were impressively fortified to protect these riches. The result was a wealth of palaces built for royalty, havelis or courtyard mansions built for merchants and nobility and intricately carved temples for the subjects. Materials used were normally sandstone, which was easily available and provided a better medium to the silavats who specialized in making stone resemble lace.

What to See:
A wide variety of safaris are offered by the Thar Desert. A short trek around the pretty town of Jaisalmer, or a longer safari taking you the length and breadth of the Great Indian Desert - options are many. In the longer version of the safari, you will feel the ambience of mediaeval times. Like a mediaeval trader you will have the opportunity of leading the caravan through the spice route in hostile conditions heading for one of the medieval kingdoms, in search of people to buy your goods. The desert safaris in India revolve primarily around the princely states of Jodhpur, Jaisalmer, and Bikaner. Besides offering the breathtaking spectacle of the endless vistas of open desert sands, these safaris are a perfect way of experiencing the village life and the wildlife.
Rajasthan has been an important center of trade and commerce throughout the historical period. The passing of the caravans through the Thar Desert gave boost to the trade. Prosperity of the trade resulted in the huge profit, which was used by the nobility to build the impregnable forts, majestic palaces, grand mansions, and ormidable citadels. Sandstone is the basic material used in the construction of these masterpieces of art that are today in the ruined state due to ravages of the time.
A typical safari comprises traveling to the architectural ruins of Lodurva located in the vicinity of Jaisalmer, the sand dunes of the Samm, the oasis at Anasagar and the water source of Moolsagar. You will travel and sightseeing during the daytime and can spend your night by cooking by the campfire and having rest. You will be able to experience the lives of the villagers on the camels-halts in the en-route villages amidst the desert scrubs. It is sure to be a once in lifetime experience of the desert rural Indian life and traditional hospitality.
Travel Kit:
Camel Safari in India The climate is extreme in the desert-afternoons may seem much hotter than the actual 26-30 degree temperature may suggest. Night temperatures may drop below zero on the dunes. It is essential to stock both woolen and cotton clothing. Shorts and skirts are comfortable wear for camel safaris but remember some of the offbeat routes visit villages that have not seen many tourists and locals may look askance at ladies who do not wear ankle length clothing and men in shorts. Sun hats with large rims or cotton caps that can be dipped in water when it gets too hot around midday, are essential preferably with a balaclava or scarf for covering the neck and forehead. At Jodhpur you can buy umbrellas that are quite convenient for camel safaris. Sunscreen cream, moisturizers and lip salve area must. A water bottle can be comfortably slung on the camel saddle and it is practical also to carry tangerines as even on a deluxe safari it may not be practical to dismount each time to drink from the carted water supply. Bottled mineral water is available at Jodhpur and Jaisalmer. Find out if the baggage is being transferred by camel cart or vehicle. In case of the latter, a small handbag can carry the essentials you are likely to need on the way.
If prone to sickness, carry suitable medication against the swaying gait of the camel. A torch, penknife an even cutlery will be required. Finally patience is an important piece of baggage on a camel safari as it takes time to get to grips with camel travel and to reach destinations that may be on your travel priorities.
When to go:
Most camel safaris are organized in the winter, when the weather's good. Rajasthan's summers are almost unbearably hot and dry, so going on a camel safari during this time is virtually impossible. November to March, when days are cool (and nights cold!) is when most camel safaris are organized.
Getting there:
Most camel safaris start from Jaisalmer, which is connected by air, train and road to the rest of India. Rajasthan's capital, Jaipur, is also a convenient base for exploring the state, whether on camel or otherwise. Jaipur has a well-connected airport, as well as regular train and bus links to a number of cities across India. All camel-safari towns in Rajasthan, such as Bikaner and Mandawa, are connected by road to Jaipur. Buses run between all the major towns of the state, and private cars or taxis can be hired to do the trip. You can plan your trip advance and do online bus booking to get cheap bus tickets. Bus booking is fairly easy and tickets are available online for Jaipur or Jaisalmer.

Konark A Timeless Classic on the Sands of Time

Konark Sun Temple located, in the state of Orissa is a masterpiece of Orissa's medieval architecture. The Sun temple has also been declared a world heritage site by UNESCO. The temple is widely known for its architectural grandeur and the intricacy and profusion of sculptural work.

Author: Sukant Senapaty

File:Konark Temple.jpgA well known tourist attraction of Orissa, Konark is known the world over for the magnificent sun temple. The 13th century temple is a marvelous expression to the medieval architecture of Orissa. The temple also referred to as black Pagoda was built with black granite by King Narasimhadeva - I in the 13th century on the beach of Chandrabagha. The entire structure was designed in the shape of a colossal chariot with seven horses and twenty-four wheels, carrying the sun god across the heavens and is known for the intricacy and profusion of sculptural work. In fact the carvings on the temple have been done with such minute precision that the temple is referred to as the place where stones sing.

The temple was constructed by King Narasimhadeva - I to commemorate his victories over the Muslims, who were pushing into Orissa from the west. During his reign he won at least three resounding victories over the invaders. The king himself, more renowned for his valor than his piety, built the structure as a victory tower thanking the Sun God for His blessing in showering victory over the dreaded Muslim. As the temple gained in prominence, it drew the marvel of people and visitors owing to its grand design and architecture.
However the temple fell out of use after it was desecrated by the Muslims in the 17th century. Ravaged by Kalapahad in 1508, the temple started dying a slow death. The marauding Muslims had succeeded in bringing down the Arch stone of the temple which resulted in its gradual collapse of the temple. Devoid of attention and shunned by people after being desecrated by the Muslims, the temple structure started getting engulfed in a huge pile of sand.
The carcass of the Konark temple was unearthed and brought to the limelight in the late 19th century by the initiatives of the Lord Curzon, which was deserted under the sand for 300 years due to lack of maintenance and negligence. The British Archeologists uncovered the lower portion of the temple structure and restored the ruins of the temple
The temple now in ruins, still holds much of its magnificence and has much to feed to the imagination of tourists. In its present form the temple 229 feet high with the audience hall at a height of 128 feet and the compound area is 857 feet by 540 feet wide. The entrance of the temple is guarded by two lions crushing a war elephant. In the entrance there is a Dancing Hal where the dancers of the temple used to worship God Sun through their dance. The dancing hall in front is intricately carved and is of photographer's preference.
The major attraction of the Konark temple is the wheels of the chariot which are 10 ft in diameter with intricate architecture & carvings. During the ancient days these wheels were used as tools for watching the time cycle of a day (24 hours) with the shape of the shadow of the wheel depicting the specific time of the day and the seven horses dragging the Chariot represent 7days of a week. The whole temple area is enclosed by different geometric patterns. Around the base of the temple, up to the walls and roof there are sculptures of couples in varied postures of in erotic style. The intricacy & detailing of sculptures of animals, men and warriors, musicians playing drums & different instruments in odissi dance posses on horses in the temple are the examples of magnificence of the Oriya architecture during that era.
The government of Orissa today has worked splendidly in direction of restoring the structure and attracting tourists to this magnificent place. An annual dance festival of Indian classical forms is held at the Konark temple complex is a major draw for tourists. This dance festival is held in high esteem among the performing artistes and visitors as well.
A visit to Knoark is enough to bring a thousand emotions out in tourists. The experience is simply unnerving!!
