Top Experiences For Your Holiday In South Africa

by Matt W Coe

South Africa is fast becoming a major holiday destination and it is not hard to see why with so much to do. Typically visitors do not stay in one area like with most holidays but travel around the country visiting the many sites with various activities in each area.
The Western Cape and Kruger Park are the top two destinations with Kwazulu Natal also becoming very popular espcially with repeat visitors.
Here is our top 5 in no particular order for places to visit and activities to enjoy whilst visiting South Africa.

Cape Point - Experience the beauty of South Africa's Cape Point on a tour of the stunning landscape that lies just outside of Cape Town. From Cape Town drive Chapman's Peak and see the breathtaking coastal scenery before stopping at the harbour at Hout Bay which is famous for its great surf. Now it's time to take in the incredible sight of Cape Point, where the cold currents of the Atlantic and the warm waters of the Indian Oceans meet. This unforgettable sight of the waves crashing against the rocks is a real the highlight of the day.

Whale Watching - Along Walker Bay, on the south coast of the Western Cape you will come across the town of Hermanus. As well as offering unparalleled scenic beauty and elegant restaurant options, during the months of May through to December the town becomes the best land-based whale watching destination in the world. As you arrive in Hermanus, you will be struck by the long stretches of beach before you, delightful flora wherever you look and the welcoming environment the charming town provides. Spend some time exploring the town, visiting the upmarket shops, strolling along the cliff path which hugs the coast from one side of town to the other. Stop by the Old Harbour, which remains almost unchanged from the early days when it was the centre of activity in the fishing village.

Safari - Imagine a luxurious retreat in the heart of the wilderness where nothing disturbs you but the sounds of the 'Big Five'. When staying in a lodge in Kruger park each day you will have the chance to go on a morning and late afternoon game drive. Your expert game driver will take you to the best spots to see members of the 'Big Five' and many other fascinating animals.

Ride Rovos Rail - All aboard the Rovos Rail, South Africa's most famous and luxurious train. Recapture the romance and the atmosphere of a bygone era, when privileged travellers experienced the magic and mystery of Africa in a relaxed and elegant fashion aboard the Rovos Rail. Since its establishment in 1989 Rovos Rail has earned an international reputation for it's truly world class travel experiences. Step aboard the wood panelled coaches, which have been remodelled and refurbished to mint condition, and enjoy fine cuisine in five star luxury as some of the most varied scenery imaginable awaits you beyond the windows.

Visit Soweto - Take half a day tour for a fascinating insight into the Township of Soweto. The Townships are areas in South Africa which during the Apartheid were reserved for the non-white people. When you take this tour you will gain an insight into this important piece of history and see how the people in the area live now. This sprawling township may not be the most beautiful or wealthiest but its home to a vibrant and varied music culture, as well as being the birth place of wonderful theatre.
